When Daniel was born, his father Patrick Covington was building what will become a property development empire. His first love, was Louise Saunders, the two dealt with both of their families sorted history. In 1990, his father moved the family and the company's headquarters to New York City.

Nearly thirty years later now a widowed father of three returns home to Radcliffe. As Covington Group's new CEO, he moves the headquarters back to town as well. He made his first appearance in Episode 2, where he ventured into his former childhood estate Home Farm. He also didn't waste time when it came to declaring to the Saunders family that 20% of Franklin Farm Ltd he has gotten from his late father made him entitled to more inclusion in the business. Daniel was also elated to see Louise for the first time in years as well.

When his eldest son Max came into town, it didn't take long to put the pressure onto him to work at Covington. Yet, he later pursued his photography full time. He made it his mission to improve the rural community by building residential and retail developments. Daniel wasn't happy when he found out his daughter Courtney started dating the much older Steven whom he found out from the private investigator he hired had an ex-wife and son in which he never told her about. Willing to do anything to break them up, he allied with Steven's mother, Esther Saunders to tear them up apart even if it means giving up his shares to the woman he despises. He took the scheme another step forward to have Lorraine make out Steven for his daughter to walk in on them. However, Lorraine couldn't go through the plan even if it meant she wouldn't be given an audition to the prestigious American Ballet Theatre which was her reward if she would've complied. His trickery cost him months without his daughter under his roof. However, the two were able to reconcile.

He tries to pursue a romance with now a divorced Louise, but Louise informed him that she isn't ready to get into another relationship after twenty years of marriage. Daniel wasn't keen on his daughter hiring Tricia Meyer to manage JoJo's Cafe. The company acquired the establishment when it on sale. In addition, he also welcomed his new daughter-in-law Shauna into the family when Max married her on Labor Day Weekend last year. Months later his professional endeavors have reached new heights. His personal ones our the ones he is having difficult to analyze.
