Elijah is the lifelong friend of twins, Lynn and Tanner Lockhart. He soon befriends Tommy. After years of being friends, he developed feelings for Lynn, and eventually, they dated and lost their virginity to one another. However, as young people do, they broke up for a time when Lenny refused to tell him she loved him. The two had a brief sexual relationship before getting back together again.

The pressures of maintaining his grades as well as working at Jojo's and participating in student government became too much for him, resulting in him developing an attachment with alcohol. Lynn, his friends, and his parents showed their concern at an intervention on Halloween night, yet refusing to see the truth, he left and drove while consuming alcohol, causing him to crash into a pole. Despite mild injuries, he was placed under arrest for DWI as well as his BAL being over the legal limit. Sentenced with a six-month suspended license and a fee, Elijah realized he needed help and admitted himself into an inpatient rehab at Radcliffe Receiving Hospital to help him overcome his addiction.
