Raised in a rather large extended British-Indian family in the west London suburban district of Southall. From an early age, Jai was groomed to run one of his family's several convenience stores. He goes onto marry Mala in 1992, and a year later they become parents when their son Samuel was born. He emigrated with his young family to the United States when he was tasked to run his family's party store in Chicago in 1995. In 2003 he became a father for the second time when Mala gave birth to their daughter Aaliyah. However, their marriage has gone through trials and tribulations due to their obligations and aspirations. They separated in 2015, but they haven't divorced yet.

He moves to Radcliffe because he wants to repair his marriage and to reunite his family no matter the obstacles that lie ahead.
