Character History

Lynn, affectionately known as Lenny by friends and family, was named partly after her beloved grandmother, Sarah Lynn Saunders, and is one of the Lockhart fraternal twin daughters. Like her parents, Sean and Louise, and much of her family, she grew up loving her rural surroundings—especially her ancestral farmland, Franklin Farm. Her world came crashing down when she discovered her father’s affair, which led to a period of teenage rebellion, including throwing a house party where she got drunk and was later busted.

Young love didn’t skip this tomboy, as she soon fell for her best friend, Elijah Barker. Like most young love, their relationship wasn’t smooth—they broke up for a time, but eventually found their way back to each other, during which she lost her virginity to him. Lenny made it clear she wasn’t fond of her father’s mistress-turned-wife, Tricia, often clashing with her, though she and her sister were present on Oahu, Hawaii, when their father and Tricia married. She grew concerned when Elijah’s drinking became a problem and helped stage an intervention, but unable to accept the seriousness of it, he walked out. Not long after, he crashed his car while drinking and driving, was arrested for DWI, and received a six-month license suspension. That incident became his wake-up call, leading him to enter rehab and ultimately strengthening their relationship.

Unlike her sister, Lenny had no plans to continue her education after high school, choosing instead to work as a farmhand on Franklin Farm. Despite her dislike of Tricia, the two reached an understanding after the death of Lenny’s half-brother, Dylan, from SIDS. Not long after, Lenny became ill, initially believing it was something minor. Tests later revealed she had acute myeloid leukemia, a diagnosis that shocked her and everyone who loved her. As she endured chemotherapy and the loss of her hair, her condition became increasingly uncertain due to the need for a bone marrow transplant, with no immediate matches. During this time, Elijah—deeply in love—proposed to her at her bedside on Christmas, using her grandmother Sarah Lynn’s engagement ring, as her family watched through the hospital room window.

Around that same time, her great-aunt Esther revealed that wealthy heiress Emma Covington Laurent was related to them through an affair between Lenny’s great-grandfather, Jimmy Saunders, and Emma’s mother, Deirdre Covington. Emma was tested and, miraculously, proved to be a match, leading to Lenny’s remission. On the day of her long-term hospital release, Elijah—along with family and friends—surprised her with a wedding on Franklin Farm. Wearing her grandmother’s vintage wedding dress, Lenny married Elijah in front of loved ones, including Elijah’s parents, who had initially been hesitant due to their youth and circumstances. The couple later moved into the main house on Franklin Farm at her grandmother’s behest, living in the attic. Though Lenny remains firm in her resistance to her father being close to Tricia, it hasn’t stopped her from embracing life as a newlywed and continuing her work on the farm.
