Widow Mae Jackson is the landlady of the local hub The Waterfall Bar. At the start of the series, she resides in the apartment above the establishment with her college-grad granddaughter Shauna and her honorary grandson Antoine Hall. She hopes for her family to reconcile instead of being apart. Her daughter Cassie lives in Miami and often pursue men with money and her son Will is serving the last year of his prison sentence for several felonies.

Remaining a supportive force, for not only her family but her friends and the community. This past year she has walked her granddaughter down the aisle and has welcomed her son back home from prison. Months later she is happy about her family being somewhat back together. Nonetheless, Mae isn't ready to fully give Will a second chance.
