Elijah Barker tried to his best to convince both of his parents that finding a job in the town of Radcliffe for someone under the age of eighteen is somewhat impossible. Knowing he does not have the desire nor skill to work on a farm nor standing outside all day at the one insurance place holding a sign either.

They're plenty of jobs for individuals your age his mother Brynn Barker said encouragingly.

Tiring of borrowing his mother's Volvo, he wants to buy an affordable slightly used car. However, neither of his parents are willing to buy him one stating he is a healthy young man who can get out of the house to work to save up for one.  He too didn't want his girlfriend to keep driving them around everywhere when his mother didn't want to part with her car. His father Nathaniel would not even let his BMW out of his sight.

So that is why today he is dressed in a white button-down shirt and black slacks in ninety-degree weather. He had a job interview at the community center. He applied for a part-time position as a counselor for the children's day camp.

He along, with Tommy Covington enter into the two-story brick building situated on the corner of Pine Street. The smell of sweat, chlorine, and department store perfume bring him back to being a child when he came here for swimming lessons when he was three years old.

"Thanks for giving me a ride man, " Elijah says

"No problem E, this place kind of me reminds me of the 92nd Street Y in New York," Tommy replies

His mother was out running errands whilst his father is on his yearly summer trip to London with his students from the university.

The two boys walk to the front desk in the lobby where people young and old were moving back and forth in the halls. The sixty-something black woman at the desk with thick glasses thinly hiding her lazy right eye informs him that someone would come and get him soon.

"I'll see you when my interview is done," Elijah said

Tommy nods his head before a college-aged petite young woman introduces herself to them as Julie. She takes Elijah with her to the end of the hall.

"Tommy,"

"Hey, Tommy!"

Tommy is about to head back out to his SUV in the lot before he turns his head when the sounds of his name are being called out. When he does find the source, it is hard for him to take his eyes off that particular person.

She is wearing a blue one-piece bathing suit and wearing flip-flops. Her long blonde hair is wet but still shiny.

"Jordan, hey," he greets her a little too enthusiastically.

Louise Saunders Lockhart strolls across the green grass field on her family's farm. She had just departed the barn where she left the farmhands whom she was supervising them on getting the cows set for them to begin producing organic milk for next year. Since it will take that time for it to be able to sell on the shelves in stores.  Clinging to the fact that consumers want their milk without antibiotics and zero hormones.

A few more steps, she sees her daughter Lynn in her black and white striped t-shirt underneath her blue jean overalls. She is holding onto a large basket of eggs from the chicken coupe.

"It sure is hot out here, isn't it, " Louise says aloud to her.

"Yeah, I was gonna go get some water before getting out here again." Lynn aims her finger to the house in the distance.

Louise is glad that she was able to get some time to talk to her daughter alone. Mainly when they drive in together  Lenny is on her phone whilst Louise is listening to topics that her favorite on-air personalities discuss on the radio and getting through traffic on I-64.

The two begin talking about Elijah going on his first-ever job interview at the community center. Louise not only sees him as the boy she saw grow up in front of her eyes but now the one who took her daughter's virginity.

As soon as Lenny is about to part ways from her mother. Her father steps next to his ex-wife.

"Lynn, I need to talk to you," he announces

Louise is about to take off not before Sean gestures for her to stay too.

"Dad if this about that woman you're with,"

"No, it's not about Tricia, I know I haven't been the best father to you and your sister."

Both Lockhart women our taken back to his exact words.

On the phone in her office inside the Covington Group tower speaking with someone regarding obtaining a trendy boutique in the retail development in town. Courtney Covington becomes satisfied when the deal is nearly closed as she places the phone onto the cradle on her desk.

The company's residential cottages are currently being built with an estimated date of completion early next year. Not to mention the commercial properties are coming together too.

She then turns to her desktop computer, the familiar ringtone of her iPhone becomes her priority, seeing who is calling her she reluctantly answers it.

"Hello, - no, I'm not busy right now, -- I will be there in a minute," she then ends the call.

Sighing as a way to compose herself before she marches out of her office,

Jordan McKnight's glossy lips curl into a pleasant grin like she caught her prey.

"What are you doing here?" she inquires as to if he wouldn't be caught dead in this type of communal environment.

Tommy puts both of his hands into his pockets. "Waiting on Elijah to get out of an interview for a job here, how is your summer going?"

She gets closer to him without any restraint Jordan has strong feelings for the handsome teenager. And she didn't think it's fair that the nerd violinist who was her former best friend gets to get him instead of her.

She chuckles confidently, "Can you see that I am trying to work on my tan?"

She continues. "My father wants me to learn "some" responsibility so he had one of his connections to get me this job as a lifeguard here."

Jordan also learned to swim here when she was young. Coincidentally it is when she first met and became friends with Elijah.

Tommy looks down at her noticing more curves that seemed to develop to him overnight.

"The pay isn't all that, but it does give me time to catch up on reading magazines."

"And don't forget that tan," Tommy includes

She points at him. "We can't forget about that, I do wish, I had someone to rub sunblock on me."

Jordan touches her face. "Right here,"

Tommy gulps, finding himself being attracted to her.

"And here, " Jordan flirts with him.

Tommy stares at her chest as her fingers rest leisurely on her breasts.

The awkward throat-clearing snaps Tommy thinking about Jordan. Elijah stands a few feet behind him, with his arms at his side holding his folder containing his resume.

"See you got bored while you were waiting on me, " Elijah says

"Don't you have some type of Comic-Con to get ready for Barker?" Jordan says with a hint of annoyance.

"Do you still wet the bed like you did when you were six?" Elijah whispers in an audible tone.

Jordan's doe eyes lay upon the object of her affection. "If you want a swim with me, you know where I am."

She then saunters away from the two friends, going back to the pool outside knowing her break is nearly over.

"Looks like she is thirsty for you Tommy."

Tommy shakes his head as a negative reaction.

"Tommy, she wants you bad,"

Months ago Tommy would be screwing her right about now. However, since he has started dating Tanner, he is doing his best to stay faithful. But, seeing Jordan looking like that, he misses being unattached sometimes.

"I'm with Tanner, remember? "

Elijah leads him towards the door. "Good, I know that I am friends with you, but I've known Tanner most of my life, I don't want her to be hurt."

They both make their way outside into the scorching heat.  To the parking lot where they walk through to get to the truck.

Tommy changes the subject. "Anyway, how did the interview go?"

Elijah gets in the passenger seat of the Lexus truck."Uh, I think I okay, she is going to email me with her decision."

Tommy turns the key making the vehicle come to alive with a commercial about a flower nursery near Hudson Lake on the stereo.

"Wanna grab some lunch, and man can we talk about the weird as fuck talk with Mr. Lockhart?"

Tommy backs out of the spot maneuvering the car onto the street as the two friends converse about Mr. Lockhart sitting them all down at the grand reopening of Jojo's the other day to talk about how to treat his daughters as boyfriends.

"Yeah, I was going to bring that up that was for real awkward."

The discussion that he had with Elijah and Tommy the other afternoon made Sean realize that he had not been the father he was before his affair was revealed to them last year.  He knows that he can be a better father. His girls deserve that much.

"I think I'm suffering results of too much heat or did you just admit you haven't been a good father," Lynn says in an unconcerned manner."

Louise decides to be quiet yet can't help but to feel somewhat impressed at her ex-husband sudden change in attitude.

Sean hoists up his sunglasses to block the sun off his face.

"Part of me still see you and Tanner as little girls who don't understand adult problems, but the truth is that you are growing into a young woman who knows more." You and your sister will come first in my life."

Lynn at first finds herself not being able to trust him. Slowly Sean wraps his arm around one of his teenage twin daughters.  She shuts her eyes, thinking about how this would've been a dream only a day ago.

Louise looks at the two of them. "It's going to be a work in progress between the three of you. I think it will be worth it though."

"Dad, I got my driving privileges back,"

"Really?" Sean asks with amazement

"Well, she managed not to skip any more school last semester and managed not having to be enrolled in summer school this year so I thought she would get them back."

"That was our deal," Sean says fairly.

Lynn tells her parents that she will see them later because she has to go take these eggs inside the house.

"I must say from what I hear I'm glad you finally stood up to Peter."

"I don't know about that, " she says modestly.

Sean instantly recognizes that look of doubt in his ex-wife's face. A look he has put there throughout their later years of marriage.

"It's the truth, " he assures her.

Louise wonders why he wasn't so honest with her when they were married.

"Well, I need to get back to work so I will see you later."

Sean lifts his head. "And Louise, if you need any help with anything, don't be afraid to reach out."

"Thanks," Louise leaves her ex-husband standing there in the area of the field. She trails away still astounded at what he said. Wondering is he going to be a man of his word?

Getting out of the elevator car onto the twentieth floor of the tower. Courtney makes her way to where she is summoned.

Inside the office suite of the CEO, she sees her father Daniel Covington reading through some documents at his desk. He looks up satisfied with seeing his daughter coming in.

"Dad, what is it that you want?" Courtney asks

Daniel puts down the forms in front of him and swings over to the bar where he fixes himself a glass of club soda with a slice of lime.

"I guess I deserve that, I wanted to congratulate you on a job well done according to the figures Jojo's Café is in the black."

The two hadn't been close in a while due to him second-guessing her decision of hiring Tricia Meyer to manage the café. Despite Daniel himself putting her in charge of the redevelopment of the café.

Courtney remains standing not too far from his desk. "Dad, why do you keep putting me in charge of things and then all of a sudden you get cold feet about it?"

Daniel sips from his glass. "I do have the utmost confidence in you sweetheart."

Tricia had confronted Daniel about giving Courtney more credit for her role for everything she has done to try and make Jojo's a success. He still did not like the woman nonetheless she did tell him that his daughter does not deserve to be caught in the crosshairs of him not wanting Tricia Meyer anywhere near his business.

Courtney steps closer to him, seeing a change of emotion on his face. "This isn't just about business, you are trying to protect Louise aren't you?"

She is certainly aware of her father's past with Louise Saunders Lockhart.

The two were teenage lovers who both of their fathers despised their relationship due to their families age-old rivalry.

Daniel laughs in a way to dismiss his daughter's claim. "Louise is an old friend who shouldn't have the woman who aided in ruining her marriage taking her coffee orders."

"Dad, I'm not trying to say you love her or anything like that, but if you have feelings for Louise, then tell her yourself."

Daniel takes another sip of his club soda."Louise is an old friend that's all," he repeats sheepishly.

"Sure dad," she tells him. "Well, I need to get back to my office; I have a call with another potential flagship store in about twenty minutes."

"Courtney, I'm serious I do appreciate everything you have done," Daniel says honestly.

"Thanks, Dad,"

Courtney marches out of his office, leaving him sitting at his desk.

Daniel picks up a picture of his late wife Keri. The photo was taken ten years ago in Central Park. Her eyes illuminated on that spring day, as her long brown hair was hanging down, and her smile made him feel emotionally weak.

"How am I supposed to move on without you?" Daniel asks as he tries not to tear up.
