MCKNIGHT RESIDENCE
Jordan McKnight flushes the toilet in one of the two bathrooms inside of the ranch-style house she has lived in all of her life. She then examines herself in the mirror. Her skin looks a tad pale and clammy feeling. Her lips feel dry, and her throat is raw, all ramifications of morning sickness, which her OB, Dr. Jamison informed her that should subside in her second trimester. Even she has noticed she has begun putting on some weight in her mid-section too.
Feeling quite gross, she decides to forgo attending her classes at Sampson today to have a self-care day for herself. Meaning she will stay in her pink floral long sleeve pajama shirt and shorts and watch beauty videos on YouTube and catch up on sleep.
She jumps back from the mirror when she hears someone knocking on the door.
"Jor, are you still in there?" the familiar voice belonging to her father.
"Yeah, dad," she answers back.
"Are you all right?" he shouts through the door.

Jordan turns the knob to show her father she is okay physically.
Police Chief Ernest McKnight is in his uniform wearing his signature black leather jacket. Meaning he is heading into work, which he tends to spend more of his waking hours than here at home, to begin with,
She trails into the fairly spacious kitchen, where she opens the fridge to grab a can of ginger ale to settle her stomach.
"You've been sick for a while now; you sure you're all right?" her father says
"Cramps, that's all," she lies.
Her father displays unease when it comes to talking about personal women's health issues.
Jordan hadn't told anyone in her family that she is having a baby. Unsure of how each of them will react. But knows she has to, which she isn't ready to,
The resonance of her mother opening the door to her and her father's bedroom door.
"Morning, you two," Thora McKnight greets her.
Both Jordan and Ernest casually greet her back.
Thora often stays in her bedroom ever since the death of Jordan's oldest brother EJ who has shot in the line of duty over four years ago. She is still a beautiful woman in her early fifties with blonde hair currently in a bun, wearing a peach fleece quarter-zip sweatshirt with matching pants.
"Ernest, have you seen EJ's letterman jacket?" she inquires curiously. "I went into his room earlier, and I didn't see it in his closet."
Jordan can sense her father rolling his eyes at that comment directed towards him as she sips some of the soda out of the can.
Ernest scratches his head. "I haven't been in his room lately," he responds.
EJ's bedroom has been left mostly untouched since his death.
"I'll check in the storage room," Thora says
A warm sensation hits Jordan's stomach, which makes her hurriedly take off back into the throw up to vomit.
Outside, both Thora and Ernest exchange expressions of worry on their faces for their youngest child.

Ernest's iPhone rings to the tune of "Born In The U.S.A." "Chief McKnight," He hears his deputy telling him that requires his presence. "I'll be there in ten." He then ends the call.
Thirty years of marriage have prepared Thora for better or for worse when duty calls. "What's up?"
"Uh, that was Livingston; there is a bad accident out on I-75. I need to get out there. I see you later. And make sure she is okay,"
Chief McKnight takes off without kissing his wife goodbye, something she has been used to for years now. She turns to the door, where she sees her daughter coming out of the bathroom more exhausted than she went in.
"Jordan, sweetheart, what's wrong?"
"Nothing," she says informally.
Thora folds both of her arms onto her chest. "I know what is going on."
Jordan prepares herself having to tell her mother the truth about her pregnancy.
SAMPSON UNIVERSITY : ASHTON DORMITORY
Taking advantage of having the room to herself while her roommate Aaliyah is in one of her design and merchandising classes. Tanner Lockhart is in her boyfriend Tommy Covington's embrace on her bottom bunk inside of her dorm room. The two were heavily making out with one another. She couldn't notice however he isn't into it like he tends to be.
"Hey, what's going on? you seem like you're on another planet or something," Tanner divulges
Tommy still has his girlfriend in his arms but he stops kissing her. "I got a Calculus test and I'm working at Covington on top of a paper I still have to bang out for my business class guess I'm just tired."
Truthfully, those things were on his mind but none of them were weighing more heavily than Jordan deciding to keep the baby the two mistakenly conceived in Hawaii last October after he and Tanner got into a big argument when he let it slip that he and Jordan kissed at his brother's wedding reception nearly two years ago when she was in Boston for the summer orchestra program at Berklee. Tommy regrets not using a condom and now he is staring at the barrel for the truth to come out which will ruin his relationship for good.
Tanner begins rubbing his shoulders. "Here let me try to make it better." she continues to massage his broad arms.
"I don't deserve you," he says

"Oh shut up!" Tanner says playfully
"No, I'm serious, Tanner you're too good for me,"
She gives him a look of confusion upon her face.
COVINGTON GROUP
The weekly Covington Group executive meeting is in session in the boardroom on the twentieth floor inside of Covington Tower. Most of the items, on the agenda, were already covered.
Daniel Covington, who is standing out of his chair head of the table where his higher-level employees were sitting around.
One last thing that will be addressed before this meeting is concluded," Daniel states professionally. "It brings me profound joy to announce the new head of digital media of this company is my eldest son Max Covington."
Daniel had wanted his son to work for the family-ran property development firm since birth. And it was crushing to him since he was young he vowed against working here to find himself.
Various reactions are made and seen from the employees including Shauna Covington, Courtney Covington, and Mala Gupta as he enters the boardroom.
Daniel gives him the forum to give a speech which Max does reluctantly. "I like to thank my father for giving me this opportunity. I know I have a lot to learn so I will be learning as I go along but I'm determined to do good work."
Some applause elicits when he is done speaking.
Thereafter Daniel adjourns the meeting as some employees urgently exited out of the room, While others took the time to congratulate the boss's son personally.
Mala puts a friendly hand on her lover son's shoulder. "I must say running an entire division is a quite rewarding yet challenging feat. I hope you're prepared."
Max chuckles nervously. "Like, I said I have a lot to learn."
Daniel motions for Courtney and Shauna to approach them. "Courtney will get you up to speed on whatever you need."
"Okay," Courtney says dumbfoundedly

Max follows his father out of the conference room with so much enthusiasm with Mala following behind.
Shauna turns her head to her sister-in-law. "You didn't know this was happening?"
Max had previously discussed his decision to take on the role even though she believes he is doing this because he is having some sort of artistic block as a photographer.
Courtney clutches her portfolio folder tightly. "No I didn't, but I wished I was more surprised by this." She then saunters her way out of the boardroom.
FRANKLIN FARM : MAIN HOUSE
As she holds her two-year-old son, SJ Saunders, Martha Saunders walks downstairs of her home, about to treat the both of them to cookies in the kitchen; when the doorbell rings, detouring her route.
"Okay, SJ, let's go see who is at the door, buddy," Martha tells him.
The baby babbles. "Okay,"
"Okay," Martha repeats.
She uses her less dominant hand to open the door. When she sees the person, she smiles in a friendly manner.
"Hey," she says invitingly.
"Hey," Antoine Hall greets her.
Martha lets him in the house. Antoine holds the tiny hand of his friend's son as he makes funny faces for the two-year-old to laugh at him,
"I needed to talk to you about something I got in mind," Antoine says
Curious about what he wants, she places SJ into the playpen where he picks up his favorite stuffed animal Mr. Giraffe Shauna given him when he was an infant.
Martha and Antoine both take a seat on the couch beside each other.
"You're going out with somebody you met at the gas station, and you want me to cover your shift?" Martha assumes.
Antoine chuckles while he rubs his chin. "No, it's not that; what do you think about singing Friday night?"
Martha's mouth is open, but no words come out.

"Come on, Martha, you know you can sing your ass off anyway; last time you sang at The Waterfall, you were good." Antoine declares
Martha remembers when she first started singing again after stopping when her quest for fame in Los Angeles did not pan out the way she wanted before coming home with her tail between her legs.
"I haven't sung in public since my dad's funeral," Martha admits
At Peter's funeral, Martha performed a soulful rendition of Amazing Grace in the church. Even thinking about it, she almost gets tears in her eyes. Since then, she kept singing in the shower and only picked up her guitar a few times.
Antoine looks at SJ, who is enthusiastically playing with his giraffe with another stuffed animal that is a bunny.
"Come on, Marty. It doesn't have to be anything original. You can do covers of the Spice Girls for all I care. But I think you'll pack in the bar, and I think it'll do you good,"
Martha takes strands of her brown hair behind her ears. "Does Mae know about this?"
"Yeah, I ran it by her, and she gave it the go-ahead as long as you want to do it."
"I almost want to say yes,"
"Look at it this way, in ten years; you'll be able to tell SJ to follow his dreams because you did," Antoine says encouragingly.
"I'll do it," she answers.
"Are you telling me yes because I'm your boss?" Antoine asks mockingly
Mae had appointed him as manager of the bar.
"Maybe," Martha snickers. "But you're right it's about time I get back out there."
She looks at her son, who is blissfully unaware of his mother's deterred aspirations.
THE CHATEAU
Classical music is playing throughout the restaurant. As Daniel and Mala are eating lunch at a table near the bar.
"So let me get this straight? Jai is not only moving here, he has purchased space for a market." Daniel process verbally.
Mala had informed him her in name only spouse is now going to be calling Radcliffe his permanent residence.
Mala places some of her Greek salad into her mouth. "He wants to be close to the children."
Daniel dips his head somewhat sympathetically. "I can see that is why wants to remain close by, but."
"He has no intention of coming between us," she adds, Figuring that was where he is heading to.
He takes a drink of his water. "Well, I guess I can't despise the guy since he purchased a property from us."
Mala thought back to still feeling some attraction towards her estranged ex when he came over to her cottage the other night. She knows deep down their marriage was over. All she needed from him is to sign the divorce papers she gave to him months ago.
"Are we still good?" Daniel verifies
Mala grins widely. "We are good,"
COVINGTON GROUP
Max knocks on his sister's office door in which he finds her at her desk looking over some documents about a potential space for lease. But she hadn't looked up to see him.
"I never knew I had to compete with papers for your attention," Max says sarcastically.
Courtney removes her concertation onto her brother. "Do you need something already?" she inquiries nonchalantly
Max walks into her office. "You okay?"
Courtney lays the documents onto her desk. "I'm fine," she lies dryly
"Want to have lunch?"
Courtney knows she shouldn't be jealous of her brother. Yet, feels that her father doesn't value her enough to head her own division since she has more business experience.
"Can I get a rain check? I have a Zoom conference in about thirty minutes." Courtney remarks
Max figures out that his sister is upset about something. He decides not to press on it right now. "Well, I'll see you later,"
When Max leaves out of the office. Courtney groans in frustration at being pissed at one of the most important people in her life. All because she believes her father is being unfair by giving someone with hardly any experience a position she should at least been considered for.
MCKNIGHT RESIDENCE
By now, Jordan had returned to the kitchen, where she has retrieved her can of soda.
Her mother stays a few feet away from her. "I know what's going on with you."
"Look, Mom," Jordan starts.
"You're trying to stay thin," Thora interjects
Jordan puts her soda can down onto the counter, somewhat surprised at hearing her mother's wrong hypothesis.
"Sweetie, making yourself sick isn't going to help take away the freshman fifteen," she replies. "Well, I better go look for your brother's jacket in the storage room."
With that, her mother heads down the hall on a mission, leaving Jordan still in the kitchen rolling her eyes. Despite not wanting her mother to know that she is pregnant. She realizes how much self-absorbed her mother is about her late brother like he is away at war instead of being buried in a cemetery, never to be seen nor heard from again. Jordan puts one of her hands on her stomach, hoping she wouldn't be selfish when it comes to the child she is carrying no matter what happens.
SAMPSON UNIVERSITY : ASHTON DORMITORY
"Tommy, don't talk like that," she says strongly. "Am I still upset about you betraying me with Jordan, yes, I am, but I'm not going to let one kiss between the two of you come in between what we had or have now."
Tommy feels bad about lying to his incredibly sympathetic and loving girlfriend. All because he couldn't deal with her choice not to have sex with him he made a terrible error of judgment. "I mean it I don't deserve you, you took me back after I kept from you what happened between Jordan and me."
Tanner lifts herself from the bed planting her feet onto the ground. "I love you, Tommy, you were wrong as hell for keeping that kiss from me but life is short and we deserve to be happy," she tells him. "Do you know here is a rumor going around campus that Jordan got knocked up by some guy at The Alley?" she adds
The Alley is the hole in the wall bar in Hudson Lake where students go to where they get to drink illegally if they show their ID's.
"That's messed up, -- I won't bring her up again," he swears
Tanner shuffles some of her long hair out of her face. "Good, because I got to be in bio lab in twenty-five minutes and I want to finish what we were doing before."
Tommy smiles liking his girlfriend's dominant personality.
Their lips intertwine as she lowers herself on top of him grateful that she decided to give him another chance on Christmas.
