Last Time On Town and Country

  • Esther sought out her ex-daughter in-law Lorraine, to give Steven access to his son Evan, in hopes to break up Steven and Courtney.

  • Steven and Courtney decided to have both of their families get together for a dinner party at Franklin Farm in order to get them to accept their relationship.

  • Louise confronted Sean over choosing to be with his mistress rather than his family.

FRANKLIN FARM : MAIN HOUSE

They're many things that Esther Saunders have been blessed with throughout her existence. Such as winning multiple horse riding competitions as an equestrian in her youth and being the first person in her family to not only graduate from college but also obtaining degrees in both Agriculture and Women's Studies. However, much to the chagrin of her deceased parents she is not successful in the kitchen. And it had become an unwritten rule that she stay far away from an oven or even a knife. And usually that bothered her, but this evening as she wanders into that particular room she was elated not to be cooking because she wasn't keen on making anything edible for Daniel Covington tonight. Instantly she smells the aroma of delicious food being made and prepped by her sister-in-law Sarah Lynn Saunders and her best friend Mae Jackson.

Both Sarah Lynn and Mae quickly look up to see her entering the room and exchange looks to one another which Esther didn't miss at all.

Esther throws up her hands gesturing to surrender " You all don't gotta worry I'm not here to ask if you ladies need any help in here."

The three ladies laugh at the sudden relief of not having Esther contributing to the meal in any way.

"No, we're almost done." Sarah Lynn replies, she uses the long fork to take out pieces of southern fried chicken from the deep fryer onto a casserole dish. She was surprised when Steven told her about the idea of having a dinner party with their family and the Covington's. Yet, Sarah Lynn did her best to smooth it over with Peter and Esther.

"Thank you two for getting this last minute dinner together and trying to keep me from the cutlery," Esther says as she gets three glasses from the cabinet and a bottle of red wine from the refrigerator. She then pours wine into the glasses and then passes a glass to the two ladies.

"I'm surprised that you're being so cool with Steven and Courtney being together." Mae points out as she is pulling out her famous homemade baked macaroni and cheese from the oven.

Esther remains silent for a moment as she flashes back to making that deal with Daniel Covington in order to get those shares from him in exchange to break up her son and his daughter.

Just as she was about to open her mouth, her son walks into the room wearing a white scribble flocked pattern shit and a pair of jeans.

"Steven, don't' you look sharp." Mae compliments him whilst she puts a few dirty dishes into the sink.

Steven forms a wide smile on his face. "Thank you,"

Esther couldn't help but notice that her only son is really happy and knows that it has to do with Daniel's offspring. Part of her feels bad about doing this to him since she knows that the divorce and not seeing his own child has upset him. Then she reminds herself that she is doing all of this in order to pass on the farm to him and the next generation of her family.

"I hope you and -- Courtney like all of this," Esther says.

Steven wraps her arm around his mother. " I love it and so will she since especially since we're eating outside on the patio." he then reaches for a baby carrot and olive on the relish tray on the counter and plops them both in his mouth.

"Some things never change." Sarah Lynn grins referring to Steven always finding something to eat before dinner.

HOME FARM

Behind the desk in his office upstairs of Home Farm, Daniel Covington is skimming through the information that his PI Murph sent to him regarding what he dug up on Steven Sullivan.

Although, he thought that he found out that he was once married and is a father to a little boy. He figures it isn't enough information to tear them apart. Meaning he possibly might be able to keep the 20% interest of Franklin Farm Ltd. Nonetheless, the thought of him and his daughter was enough to make him concern and finding out he has a past doesn't make it less complicated.

"Dad?"

Daniel sees his daughter Courtney Covington standing in the doorway wearing a Trina Turk metallic zigzag jacquard cocktail dress, her hair was straightened out, and her face was beautifully made-up.

"It's about time we started heading out to the farm for dinner."  Courtney says

"You look incredibly grown up, your mother would be so proud of the woman you're becoming." he finds himself telling her this.

Courtney does her best to hold back the tears from coming out. "Please don't make me cry because I'm not wearing waterproof mascara."

Daniel gets up from behind the desk and then goes over to his daughter and hug her. " I love you so much, I just want you to be happy that's all."

"Steven makes me happy daddy.  So can we please get going? " she says.

Daniel nods his head and the two of them walk out of the office in silence. Despite him not being the biggest fan of Doctor Dolittle. He knows he has to protect his little girl at all costs.

FRANKLIN FARM : MAIN HOUSE

Even though it was later in the evening, the day still seemed it was middle of the afternoon with the sun still shining and the sky still was still a crisp blue without a cloud in sight.

Louise Saunders Lockhart and the twins walk in the family home and the aroma of food coming into the living room nearly makes them forget about their own troubles.

Sarah Lynn comes out of the kitchen wearing an apron over her casual dress attire. She is elated to see her eldest daughter and her two granddaughters. Then bestows kisses and hugs to the three of them. After making small talk with each of them for a few minutes.

"Where is Sean?" Sarah Lynn asks, thinking that he is running behind and will get here momentarily.

"He isn't coming, he had to go to Paducah to visit his parents." Louise lies.

Tanner and Lynn don't have to stare at one another to know that their mother is lying and telling her the real place where their father is at, which is somewhere with that woman he is cheating on behind her back.

"Oh no, we're going to miss him." Sarah Lynn says sincerely. "How about you girls set the table outside ?"  saying it as more of a command than a question.

"Yes, grandma." Tanner says. Then the two of them then go into the kitchen.

"So how are the preparations going for dinner?" Louise asks

"Good so far, uh Louise could you help me try to find some shoes to wear?"

"Sure,"

" I can't believe Patrick Covington's son and grandchildren are coming to break bread with us," Peter Saunders says chatting to his sister who is on her second glass of wine in the kitchen.

" You tellin me, but I'm doing this for my son, your nephew who thinks that he can have something with a Covington."

Peter takes a drink from his bottle of beer. "Thank god that Danny Boy and Louise didn't get a Happily Ever After."

Esther puts her glass down on the counter. "I'm ready for this charade to end so we can take control back of the farm." she then picks back up her glass.

"From your lips to God's ears." Peter remarks raising his bottle.

The two of them then clink their drinks together.

After about ten minutes of back and forth, Sarah Lynn finally settled on the pair of shoes that she liked.

"Thank you for helping me out honey. " Sarah Lynn puts the leftover footwear back into the closet.

"No problem … hey, mom are things better between you and dad since everything happened with Martha's pregnancy and the business going on with the farm?"

Sarah Lynn nods her head. " Your father and I have been having our fair share of issues for the past forty-five years. But yeah things are better between me and your daddy. " Why you ask honey ? " knowing her daughter isn't the type to ask something so intimate.

Louise sighs shifting her body on the edge of the bed. "Do you think all marriages can be saved? "

Sarah Lynn turns to face Louise. Wondering if this about her daughter and her husband?

" I ain't no expert on anyone else's marriage or anything. I do think a partnership can overcome just about anything thrown their way. Though sometimes if you find yourself trying to come up with every excuse in the book in order to keep a marriage that isn't worth saving then you're wasting precious time on this earth and it is then nothing that can overcome that honey. I got to go check on a few things downstairs."

Louise is left on her own in the bedroom. She gets up to close the bedroom door. Then grabs her iPhone out of her purse and then dials a familiar number.

Three rings and then straight to voicemail.

"Hey it's me, of course, you wouldn't be man enough to answer your phone. Oh, I forgot you probably with her in the hotel room. You know I had to lie to my mother about where you were tonight. --- I don't deserve this -- the girls don't deserve this. This is what I get for suggesting that we have an open marriage in the first damn place right?"

Louise hangs up and tries to calm herself down. She then puts her phone back in her purse and then opens the door wide to find someone out there with a caught off guard look on their face.

"What did you hear?" Louise asks

"Everything," Martha Saunders answers
