EPISODE 344

Written by: Bre L Drew

June 2, 2025

Last Time on Town and Country

  • At Lenny’s reaction upon hearing the results of her bone marrow treatment, Elijah decided to plan a surprise wedding ceremony for them at Franklin Farm with their friends and family in attendance.

  • Despite donating bone marrow to save Lenny’s life, Emma is still reeling from the truth of her parentage, believing her entire life has been fabricated.

  • Presley wasn’t keen on continuing to hear about Tommy, causing tension between her and Tanner—something Jordan advised her brother to address with Presley face-to-face.

  • Tommy agreed to participate in his father’s plan to remove Jacques from the Covington Group, unaware that the scheme will also oust Courtney from her CEO position—something Daniel intends to reclaim for himself.

RADCLIFFE RECIEVING HOSPITAL

Most likely due to the anticipation of today, Lenny Lockhart woke up every hour or so. Still, she managed to squeeze in about two and a half hours of sleep before fully waking.

The reality that she’s going home finally sinks in—after months confined to Radcliffe Receiving Hospital for leukemia treatment, she’s elated to be leaving. There were times she truly believed she wouldn’t make it out alive, not with how sick she’d been. But today is the day—she’s finally getting the hell out of here.

As she waits for her parents to arrive, Lenny moves around her room, packing her belongings into a bag. She wears a headscarf over her shaven head, a gray sweatsuit, and tennis shoes.

A few seconds later, she hears footsteps entering the room. Expecting her parents, she turns—only to find it’s neither of them.

Emma Covington Laurent stands across from her in a light yellow sleeveless buttoned vest and white pants, clutching her purse tightly.

Silence settles over the room, broken only by the faint hum of activity in the hallway. The two women face each other, quietly confronting a new and uncertain reality.

FRANKLIN FARM: MAIN HOUSE

With the help of friends and family, the entire main house and the barn on Franklin Farm had been transformed into more than a suitable locale for the surprise wedding ceremony Elijah had arranged for him and Lenny to take place within the next few hours.

The décor within the house is tasteful yet understated. Soft ivory and sage accents thread through each room in the form of delicate floral arrangements—nothing too grand.

Loved ones start to slowly trickle toward the house and barn, while upstairs, Tanner Lockhart—already wearing her attire consisting of a green pleated maxi dress with her hair hanging in beach waves—is sticking the dress she purchased for her twin sister in their Aunt Martha's room. If everything goes according to plan, this is where her sister will get dressed for her own wedding—one she doesn't know is happening today.

As Tanner exits the room, she looks up to see Presley McKnight coming up the stairwell. The two hadn't seen one another since their blowup of sorts at Jojo's the other day, as once again, it seemed Tommy was at the center of their issues yet again.

"I figured you would be here," he says.

The reverend is wearing a black blazer, a white button shirt, and slacks.

"Well, my sister and best friend are about to get married. Where else would I be?" Tanner notes. She then realizes how she sounded and shakes her head fervently. "That didn't come out the way it should. I'm sorry."

Presley holds up one of his hands.

"No apology necessary. I know you're probably busy with a thousand things, but can we talk?"

"Look, can we do this later?" she queries.

"No, I think we should get into it now," Presley begs to differ. "Or do we even have a relationship to talk about anymore?"

HOME FARM

With Tommy needing to get to the farm since he's Elijah's best man, Jordan Covington decides to stay home until it's time to get Jeremy and herself ready. As a result, Jeremy Covington is in an adorable little suit while the stay-at-home mother wears a navy blue satin slip dress, her blonde hair flowing. She tells Jeremy to slow down as they head to the car, carrying her handbag in one hand and a gift bag in the other—containing a box with custom monogrammed his-and-hers towels.

The weather is perfect for a wedding: the sun is out, and the temperature will rise above seventy degrees today.

Despite not being close to Lenny and Elijah for years, she feels she has to attend as her husband's plus-one. In addition, Jeremy is serving as the ring bearer.

As they pass the mansion, she picks up the pace a bit. After what happened to her there years ago, the main house still brings back bad memories.

Just then, Daniel Covington steps outside the house, having randomly peeked out the window and spotted his least favorite daughter-in-law with his grandson.

He walks over to the little boy.

“Jeremy, you remember me, buddy?”

It’s been a while since he and Tommy moved out of the mansion and into the guest house.

“Sorta,” Jeremy shrugs.

That response makes Daniel realize how absent he has been from his eldest grandchild’s life.

Seeing this interaction unfold, Jordan runs in her heels toward her son protectively.

“Get away from him!” Jordan shouts.

The former CEO ignores her and crouches to get eye level with his grandson.

“I’m your grandpa, buddy. We haven’t seen much of each other. I see you’re all dressed up. Where are you going?”

The little boy looks up at his mother, recalling what his parents and teacher at school taught him about stranger danger.

“We’re going to Elijah and Lenny’s wedding at the farm,” Jordan says in a tone that makes it clear he shouldn’t ask any more questions.

Daniel nods, recalling the ordeal with Louise’s daughter and how it came out that his sister was not only the bone marrow donor but also biologically related to the Saunders—due to their mother’s affair with Jimmy Saunders all those years ago.

“Give my best to the couple.”

Jordan scoffs at the statement, not wanting her son to overhear further conversation.

“Hey, sweetie, can you wait by the car while I talk to your grandfather, for a bit?”

“Okay,” he says, running off like a typical four-year-old.

“He’s gotten so much bigger since the last time I saw him,” Daniel says observantly.

Jordan doesn’t resist rolling her eyes.

“It’s bad enough you’ve managed to convince my son I’m some kind of danger to that little boy, but now you have Jeremy afraid of his own grandfather.”

She shakes her head and tucks a long strand of hair behind her ear.

“Tommy and I care about our son, and we don’t want anyone who brings the kind of destruction only you can bring, Daniel.”

Daniel nearly snickers.

“And that little finger you have Tommy wrapped around will unravel soon. He’s more like me than you think.”

He dwells on their plan to oust his brother-in-law from the family company—though unbeknownst to his son, it’s also a maneuver to rid Courtney of the CEO position so he can reclaim it as he rightfully believes he should.

Jordan begins to lose patience and rolls her eyes again.

“Well, I doubt my husband would gaslight me to drive me insane.”

Daniel remains silent, recalling the lengths he went to so his son could retain primary custody of Jeremy.

Jordan saunters to the car, having had enough of the interaction.

“Tommy is going to see straight through you,” Daniel declares, watching her continue toward the car. She helps Jeremy into the SUV and climbs into the driver’s seat, pulling off in her silver BMW X5—no doubt his youngest son gave her.

Daniel sneers as he walks back into the house and shuts the door behind him.

“Not your average family reunion, ain’t it?” Lenny says, breaking the ice.

The comment elicits a minuscule laugh from Emma as recognition flickers across her face.

“I guess not,” she replies. “So, how are you doing?”

Lenny takes a breath.

“I’m alive, and I suppose I owe that to you. Thanks—I know it couldn’t have been easy.”

“Well, no one should’ve gone through what you have, especially someone so young… I know I don’t know you that well, but something tells me you’re too stubborn to give up.”

“I don’t know about all that,” Lenny says uneasily.

“Modest, are we?” Emma replies wittily.

Lenny gives a slight grin.

Sean Lockhart and Louise Saunders Lockhart exit the elevator onto the floor where their daughter has been hospitalized after receiving life-saving bone marrow treatment.

“This is a day we’re never going to forget, are we?” Louise says.

Sean nods with appreciation.

“Between our little girl being cancer-free and hopefully tying the knot with the guy she loves—it’s going to be just that.”

Louise eyes her partner with humorous affection.

“Look at you, getting all poignant in your old age,” she says good-naturedly.

The two approach Lenny’s hospital room door.

“I’m learning not to take you or our daughters for granted ever again. After everything we’ve been through, I’m determined not to do that anymore.”

Louise reflects on how their marriage broke down due to his affair with Tricia and their lack of communication. Still, they’ve managed to get back on track over the last year.

“Let’s go take our daughter to her ever after,” Louise remarks.

As the door opens and Sean and Louise enter the room, they’re surprised to see the heiress already there. The last time they saw her, she announced her relationship in front of nearly the entire Saunders and Covington families in the waiting room.

For a moment, Emma tries to spot any physical resemblance between Louise and herself. She can’t—or maybe she doesn’t want to, not right now.

Sean greets her casually and turns to his daughter.

“Lockhart Taxi Service—who needs a ride out of this joint?”

“Emma, hi. How are you?” Louise asks the woman she’s known since birth—first as her adolescent boyfriend’s little sister, but now, due to her grandfather’s affair, as her aunt.

“I don’t really know how I am, to be honest with you,” Emma replies softly.

Sensing Emma would rather talk privately, Louise glances at Sean and Lenny.

“We’re going to talk out here.”

The two women step into the hallway. Emma grips her purse strap tightly in the relatively empty corridor.

“I know the last time we talked; you weren’t in the best of moods—which is totally understandable,” Louise begins.

Your mother slept with a guy old enough to be her father and knew the likelihood of him being your biological father too?”

Louise doesn’t know whether to be amused or be offended but manages neither.

"I’m just saying I understand how complicated familial dynamics can be.

But you’re entitled to your feelings, and I want to thank you for saving my daughter’s life.”

“You’re welcome,” Emma replies unassumingly.

As a male nurse walks by, Louise turns back to her.

“The other reason I wanted us to talk out here is—Elijah and the family are throwing him and Lenny a surprise wedding out at the farm. I know it’s completely last-minute, but you’re welcome to attend.”

Emma seems shocked—not just by the wedding, but by being included.

Thank you for the invitation, but I think my presence would take away from the big day.”

She knew it’s a long shot.

“That’s okay. But the invitation still stands. And that includes the reception.”

“But if you can, tell the bride-to-be I hope she has a good day.”

"I will,"

With that, the petite businesswoman strides toward the elevator bank.

Louise lingers before heading to the nurses' desk to start Lenny’s discharge papers.

FRANKLIN FARM: MAIN HOUSE

Much as she doesn't want to have this particular conversation at this exact moment, she knows it will have to happen.

"Are we going to have problems every time I mention Tommy's name? Because if we are, that's ridiculous. I mean, you know my past with him."

Presley exhales, sticking his hands into his pants pockets.

"It's not just that. It seems every time you do mention his name, you have this tone of concern for him—more than a friend should. And maybe I should handle it better, but we can't keep acting like our relationship hasn't been affected by him since we first got together."

"Are you asking me to end my friendship with Tommy because you feel insecure? Because you might as well ask Jordan to end her marriage to him next."

"I didn't say that!" he says. "But I care about you too damn much to let you go like this."

"Relationships change over time; you should know that. But I care about you, Presley, and want to be with you."

"Probably not as much as you want to be with Tommy, though, right?"

Tanner is taken aback by that declaration, unsure where this is coming from.

Meanwhile, downstairs in the main house, the knocking at the front door has Elijah Barker coming out of the kitchen in a T-shirt and cargo pants with a half-eaten Granny Smith apple—he hasn't gotten himself changed yet.

When he opens the door, he instantly greets Tommy Covington with a dap-up and a half-hug as he enters the house, closing the door behind him.

Tommy is wearing his dark suit, similar to the one the groom will wear.

“Sorry, I’m late, but I thought I forgot my shoes at the house. Turns out they were in the trunk of my car.”

“That’s all right, Lenny isn't even here, and I’m not even dressed yet.”

“Congrats, and thanks for letting me be part of this day, standing up for you.”

Elijah crosses his arms over his chest and nods.

“I think after what we all went through in the last eight years, there isn’t anyone else I’d rather marry than Lenny—and no one else I’d have as my best man but you.”

Tommy clears his throat at his friend’s rare sentimentality.

“I’ve had friends all my life, but I didn’t feel like I really had them until I moved to Radcliffe.”

“You mean when you got kicked out of boarding school?”

“I wasn’t going to mention that, but since you said it,” Tommy says good-naturedly.

He claps his best friend’s back.

“All you need now is your bride—and a shower.”

As Elijah turns to chuckle, raised voices in the vicinity become apparent.

“It’s either a yes or a no, Tanner!”

“Presley, calm down!"

The two young men head up the stairs toward the heated interaction, seeing Tanner and Presley getting into it verbally—a far cry from those two, especially for Tommy’s ex-girlfriend.

The Covington heir doesn’t wait; he steps in between them.

“What is going on here?” he demands.

“Your timing is impeccable, isn’t it?” the reverend states.

Elijah goes over to Tanner, noticing how shaken she is.

“This isn’t any of your business,” Presley says to his brother-in-law.

“I don’t give a damn what you two were so-called talking about because it’s over, Presley. Got it?”

“That’s what you wanted all along.”

With one last glare toward Tommy and then Tanner, he storms off.

“Presley, don’t leave like this—” she strongly remarks.

But the reverend waves his hand flippantly as he zooms down the stairs toward the front door. Simultaneously, Jordan—holding Jeremy’s hand—walks up the porch steps and sees the door opening hurriedly. She’s curious as to who it is until she sees her normally calm brother stepping out.

“Hey, what’s going on?”

Her brother doesn’t stop; he keeps walking toward his car.

“What’s wrong with Uncle Presley?” the boy asks.

“Presley!” she shouts twice.

But Presley speeds off in his Ford Edge, heading down the main road—leaving his sister in a state of confusion and curiosity.

Inside the house, Tommy turns to Tanner with a glare of concern, while

Tanner becomes apologetic toward Elijah.

“I’m so sorry. I never meant for this to happen—on today of all days.”

Elijah offers his longtime friend some reassurance.

“Hey, don’t worry about it,” he tells her.

“Tanner, you alright?” Tommy asks attentively.

“I guess that depends,” Tanner answers, uncertain of the exact response to give.
