LOCKHART LAKE COTTAGE
Pacing back and forth in her twin sister's bedroom. Lynn Lockhart is struggling to process the thought of their father cheating on their mother. However, she knows that Tanner wouldn't lie, especially with telling her about the affair that their father is having behind her mother's back. Minutes after their parents surprised the two of them by giving them their first car. Lynn was on top of the world whilst it was when Tanner told her why she hadn't been so receptive to Dad for a while now.
“ I can’t believe that Dad is cheating on Mom, Are you sure that’s what you heard?“ Lynn asks
Tanner Lockhart stands near her closet with her arms folded. "Yeah, Lynn I already told you what I heard, Dad is being unfaithful. " Part of her feels guilty for breaking her sister's heart. Yet, she knew that she couldn't hold onto that type of truth for long.
Within the passing moments of quiet, Lynn began turning red with the anger of how her father can do this mother. She reaches out her hand towards the doorknob.
"What are you doing? " Tanner asks, her voice is drip with concern
Lynn turns her head. "Doing the one thing that Dad can't do. being honest, I'm telling mom."
Tanner goes over to the door blocking Lynn from going any further.
"Get out of my way! "
Tanner stares at her sister. "No!"
"Why not?"
"Maybe, going out upset to tell mom that her husband of almost 20 years is having sex with another woman is maybe not the best idea. Come on Lenny don't do this, Please. "
Lynn is about to respond when someone knocks on the door.
" Girls ? " are you in there ? " asks Sean Lockhart
The twins share a look of worry, as they hope that he didn't overhear them talking about him.
THE WATERFALL BAR
Steven Sullivan is sitting at one of the tables inside The Waterfall. He had been here for about ten minutes. He received a text some time ago from Courtney who is supposed to be his lunch date is running late due to traffic from where she works downtown.
Yesterday evening he too enjoyed himself on his first date with her. God knows the last time he had an actual date. He does feel bad about not telling her about having an ex-wife or a son he doesn't get to see as much as he would like to.
He feels a hand on his shoulder and he turns around to expect Courtney. But when he sees who is behind him he is happy to see that it is Shauna Jackson . She is wearing a blue Jordana Floral Tie-Front crop tank with blue jeans and Steve Madden silver footbed sandals on her feet.
Steven gets up from his seat to hug the granddaughter of his mother's best friend. He has known Shauna ever since she was born. He had grown up with her mother Cassie, the two of them were friends when they were children.
The two of them start to make small talk about what is happening in their personal and professional lives.
Courtney Covington enters into the bar and for a moment she had to look for where Steven was sitting at. Already feeling bad about being late due to that horrible Downtown traffic. Courtney then sees him sitting down with an African-American woman, around Courtney's age with straight dark brown hair, and is laughing at something that her ... well, she isn't sure what to call the guy she had a date or two with.
She quickly goes over to the area where she stands there until Steven makes eye contact with her.
Steven greets Courtney with a kiss on the cheek. "Courtney, this is Shauna Jackson, her grandmother owns this place."
Courtney shakes the girl's hand not hiding her curiosity at why she is here.
"Hey, how are you?" Shauna greets her
"Fine,"
"Yeah, I've known Shauna all of her life, she is best friends with my cousin Martha and my mother and her grandmother have been good friends for years now."
A sort of relief comes over Courtney as she takes a seat at the table.
"Didn't you say that your house needs some redecorating?" Because Shauna just got her Bachelor's in Interior Design and Architecture and maybe she can do it." Steven points out.
Courtney isn't exactly ready for anyone to know she is a Covington, let alone not exactly wanting to consider a girl who probably has no experience to design Home Farm.
"I will get your contact info from Steven."
Shauna forms a smile on her face " I'll let you two have lunch good to see you Steven and nice meeting you Courtney ." Steven waves her off as she walks off.
"Two dates in a row I think I like you, Sullivan," Courtney says feeling more confident,
******
Louise Saunders Lockhart couldn't remember the last time she actually came into the bar. Between work and raising her family, it leaves her with not much time for a social life. She just got her father's keys to his truck from Mae Jackson. She had taken them before Sean came to get him last night because of him being drunk.
She is about to make it to the door so she can drop off her father's truck back at the farm. When she sees Daniel Covington walking in which surprises her since she thought by this time he would have some high-powered lunch with some titan of industry. Instead of coming down to a country pub.

"Well, Well, Well, I didn't expect you to be here at this time of day." But if I know of your family of yours, a drink might be an option." Daniel says with a bit of sarcasm
"Not a good time Daniel."

"I was just kidding, do you have a moment or two regarding the farm,"
Louise throws her hands in the air. "All right Daniel. I know you well enough that you're not going to give up until you show me a PowerPoint Presentation to declare your knowledge of running a farm effectively,"
She then follows him to a booth near the entrance.
LOCKHART LAKE COTTAGE
Tanner can see the temper radiating from her sister " Shut up " she tells Lynn through clenched teeth. " Yeah, Dad."
"Your mom is out running errands, so I'm gonna order us a pizza. " Sean says through the door.
"Okay, dad."
Lynn gives her sister a look then says. “Um dad please no pineapple this time.“ she is doing her best to keep her tears from falling out her eyes.
“What’s wrong?“ Sean asks sensing something is wrong in Lynn's voice even through behind the door.

"I just got a text from Elijah that he can't go to the movies with us this Saturday." she lies.

Elijah Barker is the best friend of both Lynn and Tanner. The three of them have been a threesome since preschool.
"Oh, that's too bad, how about we all go to the movies this weekend?"

“That’ll be great Dad.“ Tanner replies trying to hold back her own tears, knowing deep down this he is the father she has known all of her life.
Both girls find themselves embracing one another knowing that they will never see their father in the same light ever again.

THE WATERFALL BAR: JACKSON APARTMENT
Casually, Shauna makes her way into the apartment. Passing through the moderate-sized living room. She views her grandmother Mae in the kitchenette pouring herself a glass of her infamous iced tea.
"
I"I'm glad that you were able to speak with your mother," Mae says
Shauna did a double take with her grandmother since she was the one who passed her the phone to talk to her yesterday.
"Yeah, speaking to the woman who once left me at home alone for hours when I was a baby so she can go to a party doesn't make me glad at all." Shauna says with a bit of satire.
Mae sighs, remembering all too well all those years ago when her husband Horace, son Will, and she were out of town. Cassie was left alone to take care of Shauna. However, Cassie wanted to go to a party that some friends of hers were having. And when the rest of the family were running late, which Cassie didn't know, thinking that they would be back soon. She left Shauna on her own so she can make it to the party. And three hours later the family found her crying and hungry. Not to mention her diaper hadn't been changed. That was when Mae and Horace knew they had to be the responsible ones in their granddaughter's life for here on out.
"You wanna talk about it?"
" Not really grandma,"
Mae pulls out a chair at the table which means Shauna didn't have a choice. So Shauna takes a seat as Mae sits across from her of the table.
"Cassie talked about Cassie, as usual, she also claims that she is sorry she couldn't make to the graduation because her latest man took her to Jamaica so she couldn't say no." You know I thought it was a recruiter calling me for a possible job interview. "
Mae feels bad about not telling her who it was over the phone. She thought that her daughter actually wanted to make it up to her for not coming. But finding out that Cassie has once again put herself ahead of everyone else hurts her to her soul.
"Shauna, I'm sorry I just see the type of relationships that Esther and Sarah Lynn have with their children and it makes me wish that you and Cassie have that type of relationship too. You know with your grandfather gone, your mother living in Miami and Will," she pauses, "ain't coming back to us for some time," Mae says
"I spent most of my life without that woman in my life and I'm going to make it out without her too. I'm going to get everything I ever dreamed of." Shauna proclaims
Mae picks up her cup of iced tea. "I have no doubt about that."
THE WATERFALL BAR
Fire We Make by Alicia Keys and Maxwell is playing on the stereo system downstairs in the bar. As Steven and Courtney our eating their lunch together.
Do you have to get back to work soon?" Steven asks
Courtney munches on her garden salad “I still got some time. Why?"
"Well, I was hoping that I can give you a tour of my family’s farm, you'll love it there," Steven replies as he picks up his glass of beer.
She is about to take him up on his offer, then it dawns on Courtney that the possibility of going out to the farm that someone might recognize as a member of the Covington family.
"I completely forgot that I had some work still on my desk. Rain check? "
Steven's face gives off an expression of disappointment. "Well next time then." he then grabs her hand. "I love the time that we've been spending together. "
She lights up at the statement. “Oh Really ?” she cracks a grin taking her drink of red wine.
Steven nods. "And hopefully, we continue to get to know each other."
*******
"Honestly, I let you in on a little secret Daniel, I actually made time to read your proposal and frankly was somewhat impressed." Louise informs him.

Daniel forms a huge grin of satisfaction. "And can we see some of those changes to the farm? I know that I - we can make Franklin Farm profitable as well as something bigger than a field in Kentucky."

She puts up her index finger. "I might agree with you on some changes but don't insult my family's farm, okay."
Daniel nods " Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa. Just tell your old man what we talked about today. "
Louise exhales, " I will, but no promises Covington."
******
Done with their meals, Courtney and Steven walk hand in hand.
"Have I mentioned that it was a good idea for us to have lunch? " she says
"I hope that you like all my ideas from here on out."
Courtney laughs as they're about to head for the door. Steven sees his cousin Louise at a booth which catches him off guard. He tells Courtney he wants her to meet someone. Courtney puts on a smile when Steven leads to the booth where Louise catches sight of her cousin with a woman in her early twenties.
Steven and Louise acknowledge each other, then he introduces the two ladies.
"Nice to meet you, Courtney." So you're the special lady that my cousin is involved with? "Louise says endearingly
"Yes, that's me." Courtney didn't expect she would meet someone from Steven's own family at this moment.
"You and the hubby having a meal out too?" Steven inquires
Louise turns to the booth and back to them. " No, actually I picked up my father's car keys, and I ran into the farm's new shareholder."
Steven shakes his head." Yeah, I can't believe that asshole really has a claim on the farm."
Daniel makes his way back over to where he was sitting, he approaches Louise " Sorry, that was my secretary one of my meetings had to be rescheduled."
He then faces a tall man with dark-blonde hair, whom he slightly remembers as Esther Saunders' son Steven. He hadn't seen him since Steven was twelve years old with most of his baby fat still attached to him. Suddenly his attention is to the petite woman who is standing right beside him. It doesn't take long for him to acknowledge his own daughter.

"Courtney,"
"How do you know Courtney, Daniel? " Steven asks

"No, the question is, how do you know her?" Daniel asks in a paternalistic tone.
"I'm dating her," Steven replies
All of the self-assuredness that Courtney possessed earlier in her father's presence vanishes and its place is discomfort.
"Steven, Daniel is my father."
Louise and Steven share looks of bewilderment at the news they just heard for themselves.
