TOWN & COUNTRY RECAP : 2020

                               Due to unforeseen circumstances, Town and Country returned on May 4th, 2020.

The year began with the Saunders family trying to cope without their patriarch Peter Saunders who passed away as a result of having a massive heart attack in March. The decision was made when Roscoe Born, who represented Peter passed away in real life; in March 2020. The character's death hit his widow Sarah Lynn the hardest. We also find out she hadn't left the house since his funeral. Most of the family was about her. Due to her depressive state, she hallucinated her late husband inside her greenhouse. Unbeknownst to Lynn and Tanner saw her talking to herself. The family held an intervention to convince Sarah Lynn to seek therapy. At first, she denied she needed help. But when her granddaughters admitted they saw her talking to herself. It was then Sarah Lynn had a minor breakdown which made her eventually sought out therapy for her to deal with her grief. She began seeing Dr. Samuel Gupta, whom she is still seeing presently. Yet it took her a while to fully commit to seeking help since she walked out halfway through her first session.

In 2019, Will Jackson was released from prison after serving three years for fraud. Stating he changed for the better to his mother. Neither Shauna nor Antoine believe he has turned a new leaf so when Will starts to receive mysterious calls. The two teamed up to figure out who was trying to contact him. Though they had no luck and decided to call their plan off. However, when Antoine walked Shauna out to The Waterfall's parking lot. A van pulls in, someone in a ski mask takes Shauna inside the van as they drove away a gun was aimed at Antoine. Friends and family gather at the bar for support as police chief Ernest McKnight leads the investigation into rescuing her. It is revealed Jerome Hawkins is the one behind the kidnapping and he is also the one who had been calling Will. The two were cellmates in prison when Will sold drugs for him. Though a sale went bad when a prison guard landed in a coma due to taking a bad batch of the substance. In which the guard nearly killed Will. Jerome stepped in by giving him his profits for him not to rat out his operation. From then on he wanted Will to pay for what he lost monetarily. From then on he wanted Will to pay for what he lose monetarily. In exchange for Shauna's safe release, Jerome wanted $500,000. Daniel got the money to be given to him. Max punched Will for being inadvertently responsible for his wife's kidnapping. Feeling guilty Will offered to be the one to drop the money off. At first, Chief McKnight and Mae were against it. Though he was able to convince them it had to be him. He made it out to the old railroad district where they were holding his niece in an abandoned warehouse. Things nearly got dangerous before the police arrived to arrest Jerome, and his two accomplices Mario Walds and Chaz Rollo. Shauna was fine physically, but it took her a while to recover mentally. She blasted Will for this incident refusing to forgive him. The manner also created problems between him and Mae and only fueled the rivalry between Antoine and he.

When Courtney presented Steven with the idea of them possibly marrying one day. He was initially adamant about the idea of sighting his first marriage as well as seeing his mother's three marriages ending badly for his decision. Nonetheless, when they were in Oahu, he proposed to her stating that the year made him aware life is too short. Courtney was surprised by it, but she accepted. 

​

Sean asked Tricia to marry him which she accepts. The two plan a small destination wedding in Oahu, Hawaii, with Courtney as her Maid Of Honor. Lynn and Tanner as bridesmaids which both were reluctant due to their history with Tricia, Also in attendance were Steven, Tommy, and Jordan. Sean and Tricia made it down the aisle. That night Tommy and Tanner got into a huge argument that reveals he had kissed Jordan a year before during his brother's wedding reception when Tanner was in Boston last summer. But Jordan was thrilled that after years of having feelings for him she got her chance. Nonetheless, he was determined to win back Tanner. On Christmas, he made a romantic gesture that worked for the two of them to get back together. On New Year's Eve Jordan confided in Tricia she is pregnant.

Also, the year marked a new family arriving in Radcliffe. Mala Gupta a well-known architect and interior designer who is hired to be the new executive architect at Covington Group. The London-bred woman had been living in Chicago for over twenty years. She moves with her two children Samuel and Aaliyah. Samuel is a psychiatrist, and Aaliyah is an intelligent seventeen-year-old who much to Mala's disappointment is majoring in design and merchandising at Sampson University instead of attending Yale as she dreamt for her. Mala and Daniel form an attraction to each other soon they start to date. At the end of the year, Mala decides to file divorce from her estranged husband Jai after five years of separation.

We also found out Lynn and Elijah had broken up over Lynn refusing to say "I love you" to Elijah when he said it to her for the first time. Though the two still were sleeping with each other. Elijah wanted to get back together but Lenny didn't. Nonetheless, the two became upfront with their feelings and eventually they reconciled. 

 

Tanner, Tommy, Elijah, and Aaliyah started their freshman year at Sampson University. We were also introduced to Lorenzo Vidal a fellow freshman and roommate of Elijah who showed a romantic interest in Aaliyah. The two began dating shortly thereafter.

The history between the Saunders and Covington families gets more sordid when Steven discovered a mysterious letter in the attic of the main house on the farm detailing an affair between an unknown woman and Jimmy Saunders from over thirty-five years ago. It is revealed the letter was written by Deirdre Covington, who had an affair with Jimmy while they both were married to Patrick and Rosemary respectively. Esther is the one who knows about the affair and decides to keep the identity behind the letter to herself. Though it didn't stop her from confronting her former friend over it. Still, Deirdre denying that her daughter Emma was the product of the affair. Even though truthfully she is unaware of her daughter's true paternity. 

 

During the series, the 100th episode chronicled Daniel's surprise 45th birthday party. We introduced Daniel's longtime married friends Magazine Editor John Merriwether and television actress Heather Merriwether. The couple is known to be part of NYC's elite. Also in the episode, we're finally introduced to the much-referred Emma Covington represented by Jen Lilley (now played by Elizabeth Hendrickson). She made her presence known by arriving at the party via a helicopter. She made her presence known by arriving at the party via a helicopter. The jet-setting heiress didn't wait to rub characters the wrong way with her spoiled antics. She was hiding the fact that she and her Parisian billionaire fiancé Jacques Laurent had a falling out over him putting work above them. Soon he made his way to Radcliffe where they made up. However, she overheard him speaking to someone on the phone that he was only engaged to her because of her lucrative funds. On New Year's Eve, it comes out Jacques' family isn't doing well financially. So he wanted to bring his family's shipping company stateside using her connections to do so. She quickly ends their engagement, so she ended up at The Waterfall where she got drunk. And at the stroke of midnight, she wound up kissing Will, which surprises not only him but herself as well.
